For securing the interests of the Transgender community, the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched the Smile Scheme so that after applying under this scheme, the transgender children community will be able to get scholarship assistance provided by the government for pursuing higher education without having to face any kind of financial difficulty.

Smile Scheme 2023
Smile Scheme has been launched by the Government of India so that a step will be taken in order to provide some social security provisions to the Transgender Community in the field of any sector whether it is education/employment or marriage. After applying under this scheme, the government will start providing them with the amount of scholarships.
Minister Shri. Virendra Kumar has launched the Smile Scheme in order to provide Health Insurance policies as well as scholarship incentives to the communities of transgender. This initiative has been adopted in order to treat transgender same as the normal person is treated. A target of covering 60,000 transgender has been fixed by the government.

Objectives Of Smile Scheme
One of the main and primary objectives of launching the Smile Scheme is to provide some sort of Social Security Provisions among the communities of Transgender so that they will be able to get the same rights and facilities as the common citizen get access. This scheme will bring the transgender community into the mainstream.
Another objective of launching the Smile Scheme is to provide Health Insurance Policies as well as Scholarship incentives to all eligible beneficiaries who fall under the Transgender community. After applying under this scheme, 5 Lakhs of Health Insurance and Rs. 13500 Scholarship incentives will be provided to them. This will also put emphasis on making transgender self-reliant.
Health Insurance Policy
There are 2 segments of this scheme that have been set up by the government. 1st segment of this scheme is to provide Health Insurance Coverage to all the citizens who fall under the Transgender community. The government will start providing 5,00,000 Health Insurance policies to the eligible beneficiaries. With this amount of health policy, they can get treatment free of cost while getting admitted to the hospital.
Scholarship Incentive
Another second segment of launching this scheme is also to provide scholarships to transgender children or students. This will encourage them to pursue higher education. The amount of scholarship will be provided to the students from class 1st to graduation level. After applying under this scheme, an amount of 13,500 will be directly transferred to their bank accounts. This will be given in the form of scholarships to the beneficiaries.
Training Facilities
After completing their graduate-level education, the government is going to give training to the Transgender Communities so that their skills, aptitude, and knowledge of the theoretical approach of study will get upgraded and updated in comparison to the practical aspects of the job. This training facility will prepare them for their future job aspirations.
Job Placement
The next step after giving training facilities to the applicants will be providing job placements. Eligible Beneficiaries will be given job placements to assure them that their effort toward study is going to be good. Recruitment authorities will be set up who will stimulate the young potential to apply for the vacant jobs.
