Objectives Of UGC Scholarship

The primary objective of launching the UGC Scholarship is to provide scholarships to students aspiring to pursue or undertake a higher course of studies but can’t be able to do so due to the high fee-paying structure which results in dropping out of their studies. To such students, the UGC will start awarding scholarship or fellowship amounts.

Another objective of launching the UGC Scholarship is to provide variable fellowship and scholarship amounts to the students based on the enrollment or registration to that scholarship or fellowship for which they have applied. The students will be awarded the scholarships on a monthly or yearly basis. Students can also get scholarships in one-time payment only.

Formation Of National Testing Agency

The national testing agency is the autonomous body that has been created under the supervision of the University Grants Commission which will help in the conduction of the entrance exam for a student who wants to get admission to higher studies such as Fellowship programs. This agency will bring transparency, accountability, and portability to the delivery and acceptance of the test given by the students.

Objectives Of NTA

Some of the objectives of NTA are as follows:-

  • This agency will help in testing the competency and potential of the students who have taken exams to get admission to the fellowship programs. 
  • To bring transparency, efficiency and accountability to the conduction of tests in the standardization of test units. 
  • To identify the education gap in the education and research systems. 
  • To produce and research knowledge information in the educational and research sector. 

Facilitation Of Grievance Redressal

For the facilitation of grievances redressal, the central government has provided a student grievance redressal helpline number so that the students will be able to lodge their grievances regarding the UGC-offered courses and other aspects after dialling this helpline number:- 1800-180-5522. No cost will be charged for calling this number because this helpline number is toll-free.

  • UGC Scholarship will cover around 15 scholarships which will be provided to the students for applying.

The features of this scholarship are as follows:-

  • The University Grants Commission has launched the UGC Scholarship.
  • A list of 15 scholarships has been covered in the form of subsidiary scholarship initiatives.

Post Graduate Scholarships for Professional Courses for SC/ST CandidatesThe student must belong to the SC or ST category pursuing a PG degree in the Professional course that must be approved by the MCI, NCTE, BCI, NCTIS, RIC, DCI, PCI and AICTE body.
Special Scholarship Scheme Ishan Uday for NERThe student must belong to the NER states pursuing technical/professional/general degree courses from the accredited college approved by UGC having an annual income limit of Rs. 4,50,000/-.
Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship for Research in Social SciencesThe student must be a single girl child undertaking PhD degree in the Social sciences field having an age limit of 30 years. The transgender communities will also be considered eligible.
Emeritus FellowshipThe applicant must be a teacher of recognized universities/colleges/institutions. 
Dr. S. Radharkrishnan Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Humanities and Social SciencesThis fellowship will be applicable to the unemployed young researchers attaining the age limit of 35 years undertaking Ph.D. degrees in the social sciences or humanities field securing minimum marks of 55% to 60% marks in the last year’s examination.
Dr. D. S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship SchemeThe fellow must attain the age limit of 35 years pursuing PhD degree in the science field or faculty.
Post-Doctoral Fellowship to Women CandidatesThe candidate must be a women student pursuing or holding a PhD degree and she must be unemployed not exceeding the age limit of 55 years. The minimum marks must be 55% to 60% in the last year’s exam.
Post-Doctoral Fellowship to SC/ST CandidatesThe student must be an SC or ST candidate undertaking PhD degree having an age limit of 50 to 55 years securing at least 55% marks in the PG degree exam.
National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste StudentsThe SC student must be undertaking an M.Phil or PhD degree and must have passed the PG degree with good marks.
National Fellowship for Higher Education of ST StudentsThe ST student must be undertaking an M.Phil or PhD degree and must have passed the PG degree with good marks.
National Fellowship for Persons with DisabilitiesThe student must be a disabled person with 40% disability marks pursuing or undertaking an M.Phil or PhD degree from a recognized college or university approved by the UGC.
Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority StudentsThe student must belong to the Minority community undertaking a full-time or regular M.Phil or PhD degree having an annual income limit of Rs. 2,50,000/- and must have secured at least 50% marks in the PG degree exam.
National Fellowship for OBC CandidateThis fellowship will be given to the students of the OBC caste who are undertaking an M.Phil or PhD Degree having an annual income limit of Rs. 6,00,000/-.
