The Ministry of Human Resource and Development has launched the MHRD Scholarship Scheme by initiating two types of departments such as the Department of Higher Education and the Department of School Education and Literacy. These two departments will facilitate the launching of new scholarship schemes for providing welfare to the students of economically backward classes of society.

MHRD Scholarship 2023-24

There are 2 types of scholarship categories that have been covered under the MHRD Scholarship covering 18 major scholarships for students at the national and external level so that the students belonging to these categories will be able to apply online as per their choice of requirements and eligibility criteria.

The Ministry of Human Resource and Development has launched the MHRD Scholarship facilitating two types of Ministries at the national level as well as at the external level. The national-level interface will provide the students with an opportunity to get free-of-cost education for studying in India and an external interface will provide the students with higher education for studying abroad.

Objectives Of MHRD Scholarship Scheme

The foremost and primary objective of launching the MHRD Scholarship is to provide a platform by which the students who have higher dreams of pursuing studies or further studies in India as well as or in foreign countries may be able to get implemented by applying online for these scholarships schemes conducted by the government authorities. 

Another objective of launching the MHRD Scholarship is to provide some form of financial help and support to the students so that they will be able to carry out a higher course of studies after getting the scholarship amounts on the basis of the scholarship for which they have applied for out of the 18 launched or covered subsidiary scholarship initiatives.

Formation Of 2 Distinctive Departments 

There are 2 kinds of distinctive departments that come under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) namely:- the Department of School Education & Literacy and the Department of Higher Education. Both departments work together in unity for the implementation of a relevant scholarship scheme. There are around 18 types of scholarships that have been launched by these 2 departments. 

Role Of Higher Education Deptt In MHRD 

The Department of Higher Education plays a vital role in the MHRD for the overall development and growth of the higher education sector in terms of implementation and success. It is responsible for monitoring and regulating the broadcasting of Higher Education after class 12th. Some elements of this department are as follows:-

Role Of School Education & Literacy Deptt In MHRD 

The Department of School Education & Literacy is responsible for the coordination and management of educational activities between the local school districts and state schools. It also provides workbooks to the teacher so that they will be able to access the learning outcome of the student. This department also executes the education policies for the nation

MHRD Scholarship Selection Procedure

The students will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, and the previous year’s academic record. Then the selected students will get listed in the beneficiary list and the same thing will get uploaded on the portal. Afterward, the scholarship amount will get transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account number. This scholarship amount will cover the major expenses or allowances.

Benefits Of MHRD Scholarship Scheme 

The benefits of this scholarship are as follows:- 

  • MHRD Scholarship will provide you with a list of 18 scholarships for applying online.
  • Students belonging to underprivileged communities will be able to get scholarships.
  • CSSS Scholarship will cover the scholarship amount of Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 30,000/- Per Annum.
  • Disabled students with 40% disability marks will be given financial assistance of Rs. 50,000/- on an annual basis so that they will be able to carry out a degree or diploma in the technical courses.
  • Students will be offered to study in foreign countries such as New Zealand, China, South Korea, UK and Japan.
  • Students will be given scholarships both at the national and external levels.
  • This scholarship will cover the major allowances.

Features Of MHRD Scholarship 

The features of this scholarship are as follows:- 

  • The Ministry of Human Resource Development has launched the MHRD Scholarship.
  • This scholarship will be provided to the residents residing across India.
  • There are around 2 departments that are working as the nodal agencies for the implementation of this scholarship.
  • There are around 18 scholarships that have been covered as subsidiary scholarship initiatives.
  • About 2 scholarship categories have been set up for the students who are going to apply.
  • National-level scholarships have covered around 7 scholarships and External level scholarships have covered about 11 scholarships.
  • The mode of DBT will be used for transferring the scholarship amounts.
  • It is mandatory for the students to secure at least 50% to 60% marks for getting a scholarship renewal.

MHRD Scholarship Eligibility Criteria 

The applicants will need to possess the mentioned below eligibility criteria for getting online registration under the MHRD Scholarship:-

Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for Jammu Kashmir This scholarship will also be applicable to the child of a dependent ward/widow of deceased CAPFs & AR/ Ex-CAPFs & AR/ retired and serving CAPFs & AR/ State Police Personnel pursuing technical or professional courses and also have secured minimum marks of 60% in the last year’s exam.
National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE)The student must be a girl candidate falling under the section of SC/ST studying in class 9th below the age of 16 years. 
National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Students will need to secure 55% of the minimum marks in their 8th class examination and now they will have to pursue class 9th having an annual income of Rs. 1.5/- lakhs. 
Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF)The student must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the Science and Technology fields IISc/IITs/NITs/IISERs/IIEST while securing a minimum GPA of 8.0 out of 10 GPA. Students pursuing research from PMRF Approved institutes will also be considered eligible.
AICTE Pragati Scholarship (Girls)This scholarship will only be applicable for the girl students having enrollment in the 1st year of a Diploma/Degree in technical course from the AICTE-approved college or institution attaining Rs. 8 lakhs of annual family income. 
AICTE-Saksham Scholarship SchemeThe student must be a disabled person having 40% disability marks pursuing a degree or diploma in the technical course of studies from the AICTE Approved Colleges having an annual income limit of Rs. 8,00,000/-.
Commonwealth Scholarships in the United KingdomStudents having 65% and 60% of marks in the science and social science subject pursuing MPhil Degree at a UK University. The maximum age limit of the student must be 40 years.
New Zealand Commonwealth ScholarshipsThose students who want to pursue further studies in New Zealand will be considered eligible. The student must secure 60% marks in their BA/MA degree. 
Chinese Government ScholarshipsApplicants must be pursuing UG/PG/Doctorate while having 60% marks in the UG/PG/Doctorate Studies attaining an age below 45 years. 
South Korean Government ScholarshipsThe student must be pursuing MA/Doctoral or Postdoctoral studies having the age of 50 years.
Japanese Government ScholarshipsThe applicant must be pursuing a research-level degree, MA, PhD course including subjects such as humanities, social science, management studies, mathematical science, chemistry and chemical engineering, physics, and more below the age of 35 years possessing 65% marks in the MA or PhD degree. 
Italian Government ScholarshipsThis scholarship will only be applied to students pursuing MA/ PhD/ Research-based courses between the age limit of 28 to 40 years and having a proficiency certificate in the Italian language. 
Mexican Government ScholarshipsStudents with MA/ Doctorate/ UG degrees have a GPA of 80 on a scale of 1 to 100. 
Israel Government ScholarshipsStudents will need to pursue an MA degree in subjects such as Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture, Economics, Environment Studies, Biotechnology, Mass Communication, and Business Management having proficiency in the Hebrew language. 
Brazilian Government ScholarshipsStudents must have passed his/her class 12th securing 60% of the minimum marks and having proficiency in the Portuguese language between the age group of 18 to 25 years. 
Presidential Scholarships, Sri LankaThe student must be pursuing a BA having the age of 25 years. 
Ms. Agatha Harrison Memorial FellowshipThe student must be pursuing or undertaking PhD degree in any field while securing 60% marks in the PG degree and having an age limit of 30 to 40 years. After the completion of PhD degree, attaining 3 years of teaching experience at the UG or PG level is mandatory.
