The Ishan Uday Scholarship was launched by the University Grants Commission so that students residing in the NER such as Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura could pursue general degree courses, technical/professional courses after receiving the scholarship amounts provided to them. The scholarship amounts were disbursed to them every month.

The primary objective of launching the ISHAN UDAY Scholarship Scheme is to promote higher education among the students belonging to the Northern Eastern Region of India so that they will be able to complete and fulfil their dreams of pursuing a high level of education. This scheme will be extended to those students who are pursuing general course studies, professional courses and vocational courses, etc. 

Another objective of launching the ISHAN UDAY Scholarship is to promote awareness of Higher Education among the students belonging to the NER so that there will be an increase or enlargement in the gross enrollment ratio which will increase the literacy rate of the states residing in the Northern Eastern Region of India.

ISHAN UDAY Scholarship Amount

There will be certain restrictions on the rate of scholarship or scholarship amount provided to the eligible beneficiary based on the educational qualification they possess or the course they are pursuing. Rs. 5400/- per month will be provided to those students who are pursuing general courses and those students who are pursuing Technical or Professional courses will be given a scholarship of Rs. 7800/- per month.

No. Of Beneficiaries 

There are certain limitations on the number of beneficiaries who will be able to get scholarship amounts under this scheme. Around 10,000 eligible beneficiaries will be able to get scholarship registration. This limitation has been fixed by the UGC which changes every year. Students will be selected based on the performance of the school records. 

Annual Income Limit 

The course of study or degree undertaken by the student will not only be sufficient for the student to get the scholarship amount. The student will also possess the annual income limit which has been fixed by the selection body. The annual income limit of the eligible beneficiary must be equal to Rs. 4,50,000/-.

List Of Ineligible Beneficiaries 

The following list of beneficiaries will be considered ineligible to get online registration:- 

• Students pursuing Open Learning Courses. 
• Students are already getting scholarships from other launching bodies. 
• Students holding management quota.

Role Of MHRD & UGC 

Here the Ministry of Human Resource Development and University Grants Commission is playing a vital role in the promotion of higher education or studies among the students of the North Eastern Region and this will also increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER). The main responsibility of MHRD is to encourage the students of NER to pursue higher education despite belonging to the EWS category.
