West Bengal Scholarship 2023

For securing the students belonging to the economically backward classes, the Government of WB has launched the West Bengal Scholarship Scheme so that they will be able to get social security provisions or social welfare benefits provided by them. These five scholarships will cover each student from each different category such as minority community, SC or ST community.

Now the students residing in the WB can apply online under the West Bengal Scholarship while holding the beneficiary category such as SC, ST, and Minority for pursuing post-matric classes from classes 9th to 12th and UG degree to Ph.D. degree. There are various bodies delegated with the task of implementing each subsidiary scholarship initiative.

Objectives of WB scholarship scheme

The primary objective of launching the West Bengal Scholarship is to explore and expand the educational and employment opportunities among the students belonging to the SC or ST community so that they will be able to build their foundation for their upcoming future which can contribute a form of investment or contribution to the whole life of their career.

Another objective of launching the WB Scholarship is to provide some sort of financial help and support in the form of scholarship amounts to the students so that they will be able to uplift their educational standards after getting the scholarship amounts provided to them in the form of DBT. Around 8 scholarships will be offered to the students in the form of subsidiary scholarship initiatives.

Beneficiary Category

The students will need to ensure that he or she who is going to apply for this scholarship applied for the beneficiary category to which the student may belong. This scholarship will be provided to students who belong to underprivileged communities such as SC, ST, OBC and Minorities.

Preparation Of Beneficiary List

The list of eligible beneficiaries will be made by the concerned authorities delegated to this task.  In the first step, the student will be required to submit their application on the portal along with submitting necessary or important documents of the relevant size. Then the Nodal Teachers of the relevant school will verify and scrutinize their applications and then the same beneficiary list will be prepared by them and will soon get uploaded on the portal.

Important Information

Some other important information regulated by the government are as follows:- 

  • Before getting registration under the relevant scholarship scheme the student will be required to maintain or secure minimum qualification, age as well as attendance in their school records. 
  • Scholarships will be canceled by the government or school authorities in case the student violates discipline norms by the scholarship regulations.
  • The state government of West Bengal will also be authorized to cancel the scholarship amount of the student in case he or she has violated the scholarship norms and regulations.
  • The student will be solely responsible for carrying out the Genuity or correctness of the details file on the application form. 
  • The scholarship will only be provided to those students who have never got any kind of scholarship amount under any scholarship scheme otherwise the student will get expelled from getting the scholarship amount or getting any kind of registration under the relevant scholarship scheme.
  • In case the student wants to apply for the renewal of the scholarship application then it is her primary responsibility to secure 50% of the minimum marks in the last year’s examination.
  • There will be a difference in the scholarship amount provided to the scholar or hosteller. 

75% Attendance Is Must

It is mandatory for all students whether they are carrying out scholarship incentives or whether they need to secure 75% of the minimum attendance in their school records otherwise they will be restricted from getting school classes.  Having 75% of attendance can also be beneficial for the student to get enrollment under any kind of scholarship scheme.

Renewal Of Scholarship Application

For applying for the renewal of the scholarship application form, the student will need to secure minimum or qualifying marks out of the total percentage in their last year’s examination. For example, if the student is studying for a college-level degree such as UG Or PG, then he or she will need to secure 50% to 60% of marks in the previous year’s semester exam.

Another eligibility criterion for selection criteria is the annual income of the parents of the beneficiaries which plays a vital role in the allocation of scholarship amount to the beneficiary. There are certain boundaries or limitations set up by the government on the annual income attained by the beneficiaries holding relevant scholarship schemes.

Benefits Of WB Scholarship Scheme 

The benefits of this scholarship are as follows:- 

  • Students will be able to get financial help and support provided under the WB Scholarship.
  • Students will be offered a list of 8 scholarships for applying.
  • This scholarship will be given to students belonging to the SC, ST, OBC and Minority communities.
  • A scholarship amount of Rs. 33,000/- will be provided to the students for pursuing technical and professional courses.
  • This will secure the interests of the students residing in the WB state.
  • Girls will be able to get or receive a book grant of Rs. 2,000/- on an annual basis.
  • Both SC and ST Students will be given financial assistance of Rs. 750/- on the monthly basis for pursuing pre-matric classes.

Eligibility Criteria 

The student will need to possess the mentioned below eligibility criteria for getting online registration under this scholarship:-

Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship (Minority)The applicant must be a student living in the state of West Bengal having or securing 75% of marks in the class 10th or 12th class examination or if he/she is pursuing PG then must score 53% marks in their UG exam. The annual income limit of the student’s family must be equal to Rs. 2,50,000/-.
Bigyani Kanya Medha BrittiThese scholarships will only be applicable for the girl students pursuing Engineering, Medicine, and Basic Science having passed their 12th class. 
West Bengal Post-Matric Scholarship for SC/ST/OBCThe student must belong to the beneficiary categories of SC, ST and OBC pursuing classes from 11th to PG degree having an annual income limit of Rs. 1 Lakh for OBC and Rs. 2,50,000/- for SC/ST candidates.
