Objectives Of Union Plus Scholarship

These scholarships aim to support students by offering them $1000 or $500 based on their financial capabilities. The objective extends to not only the students but also their spouses and children who can benefit from this opportunity. 

Another objective of launching the Union Plus Scholarship is to provide scholarship amounts to the students so that if they have received an admission offer or letters from the USA universities will be able to pursue or undertake further studies after submitting the amount of fees demanded by the university body. 

Eligible Beneficiaries 

The list of eligible beneficiaries is as follows:- 

• Current and retired members of unions participating in any Union Plus program
• Spouses and dependent children of current and retired union members
• Members of participating unions from the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Canada
• Undergraduate and graduate students

Ineligible Beneficiaries 

The list of ineligible beneficiaries is as follows:- 

• Grandchildren (unless they are legal dependents as defined by IRS regulations)
• Applicants who do not meet the one-year membership requirement by May 31, 2023
• Students who have not been accepted into a U.S.-accredited educational institution
• Individuals who are not members of participating unions in the specified regions

The students will be able to get the scholarship registration after applying online for this scholarship. For this, they will also need to get to know the last date by which they can get registration. Scholarship Program for Working Families

The Union Plus Scholarship Program has given over $5.4 million since 1991 to students from working families who want to further their education. More than 3,800 families have benefited. This scholarship is offered by the Union Plus Education Foundation, with support from the Union Plus Credit Card provider. You don’t need to have a Union Plus Credit Card to apply.

Scholarship Award Announcements & Notifications

The Scholarship Committee will decide who receives scholarship awards by May 31 each year. In the first week of June, award recipients will receive individual notification by mail. All applicants will receive an email informing them that the list of recipients is available. No updates will be provided on application status to the students before the announcements are made, due to the high number of applications.

• Essay 1: Describe your relationship with the union and the labour movement, in what ways has it personally affected your life and your family’s life?
• Essay 2: A choice of one of these two questions:-
  • The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience? 
  • Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?
